THE BUILDING
The Porto Cruise Terminal, located on the Molhe Sul in the Port of Leixões, is a harbour space dedicated to cruise operations and a variety of functions to open up the port to the community.
The strategic definition of the Porto Cruise Terminal had a twofold objective: improved commercial efficiency, associated with cruise activity, and better urban integration, associated with increased sociability with the surrounding population.
The project includes the main building, where various components cohabit, the cruise ship reception terminal, and the spaces dedicated to the various activities and agents, the CIIMAR Interdisciplinary Centre of Marine and Environmental Research of the University of Porto, as well as rooms for events, exhibitions, shows and visits.

The Project
The Cruise Terminal building at the Port of Leixões was designed by architect Luís Pedro Silva and is one of the parts of a strategic plan for the harbour area in which it is located. It acts as a hub between the plan's three main functions, which include a new pier for cruise ships, a new harbour for pleasure craft and a new access route to the city of Matosinhos.
CIIMAR
On the 2nd floor of the building is the large science space reserved for CIIMAR - the Interdisciplinary Centre for Marine and Environmental Research, which is one of the University of Porto's main research and advanced training institutions, working at the frontier of ocean knowledge and innovation.
