CIIMAR
On the second floor of the building is the large science area reserved for CIIMAR - Interdisciplinary Centre of Marine and Environmental Research, which is one of the main research and advanced training institutions of the University of Porto, working at the forefront of ocean knowledge and innovation.
The center promotes an integrated approach to oceanic and coastal areas, fostering understanding and knowledge of the biological, physical, and chemical dynamics of these environments and the impact of natural and human activities, with the aim of uncovering the connections between these processes and understanding the functioning and responses of oceans and ecosystems to global changes.
Using knowledge-based approaches, natural capital and sustainable management of marine resources are promoted through ecosystem health monitoring, optimization of aquaculture, and biotechnological exploitation of resources for environmental and human health applications.
